Homeowners and developers are now able to add an extra two floors to existing buildings without requiring full planning permission.

As of August, the government has said that the new rules would prompt people to build more bedrooms or flats for elderly relatives, and create additional apartments to assist with the housing shortage.

The changes will be allowed under Permitted Development.
